Deer Hunting in the Open

The soybeans were harvested this past weekend in a field next to our timber. Leaving the field wide open, nowhere to hide. It is interesting in what ways die-hard hunters are able to capitalize on various hunting scenarios. This building belongs to a guy who works for the leasee of the field. The owner of the building and his friends are avid hunters in the area. In all seasons... They will probably begin using the structure very soon since the first Bowhunting season arrived in Iowa on Ocotber 1st and runs until November 30th. The second season opens December 17th and will run through January 10th. I can see the possiblities in using this deer stand in the gun seasons as well. It took it's station a year ago further to the east of this location in the corn field. I would be interested in observing the deer/hunter activity as the seasons progress.

Never seen a deer stand on wheels before...and looks like a little house. Whatever works! Pretty cool...thanks for sharing cdgardens! :)

A very interesting stand. The hardcore hunters will do whatever they can to still get out. And they come up with some creative ways.

Marian Love Phillips - They move the shed in after harvest, take it out as soon as the snow melts, and the ground is still firm, before planting in the Spring.

Maybe, they have a full kitchen etc... ;)

Simply Outdoors - It is approximately a half mile back to the stand from the road. The weather gets extremely cold sometimes...I can understand having a place to hangout and still bring home a deer.

That's pretty neat! I love hunting in open spaces with sweeping views. I don't get bored when I have a vast vista to gaze upon.

windyridge - The deer are always very thick in that area, even out in the open during the season. They shouldn't have any problem filling their licenses.

It does have a really nice view in all directions. The snow adds interest too when it finally arrives. ;)

Tom Sorenson - I must totally agree. I am still one who braves the elements yet to take advantage of the deer huntings seasons. :)
