Decorah Eagles 2013
Last fall the return of the popular eagles to the Decorah area to nest was exciting. However, the couple decided to relocate their abode and with that choice the ability to keep a 24/7 watch on their every activity will not be possible this season.
Periodic glimpses and alerts can still allow you to see what is going on in their vicinity.

Decorah Eagles Return
The Decorah Eagle couple of camera fame have returned to build a new nest away from cameras to rear their new family come February.
A report by Bob Anderson with the Raptor Resource Project, said they won't be able to move the webcam to the new nest 300 feet away from the old one until after the new eaglets hatch and leave the nest.
It is my understanding at this point that attempts to keep the public informed about the future family will be done by taking digital still photos.
I will miss the opportunity to see the close-up shots of the chicks from hatching to flying away to start families of their own.
A little research has brought to my attention that eagles may build more than one nest within their territories and will build new nests if they lose a mate.
Something I wonder about in this situation is if they are aware of the webcam that had been keeping an eye on them? Maybe they were tired of the peeping public...
In any event I hope to bring updates in the future when the expectation of the new family is announced.

Decorah, IA Eaglet D12 Electrocuted
Sad news, of the loss of Eaglet D12 from the Decorah, IA, Eaglecam hatched on March 27th, he was found dead on July 3rd, not far from the home nest. The evidence at the area indicates he was electrocuted by wires close to the nest. The power company is working to modify pole tops to keep the other raptors safer.
Officials say that siblings D13 and D14 are showing signs of knowing their brother is no longer with them.
The Eaglecam was turned off for the summer on Saturday, June 30th, to give the project time to put up new equipment for 2013 and get it tested. More excitement to come when the parents return to start a new family.
Other cams are being monitored now. Why not give a vulture cam a try? The fledglings should be ready to take flight by August....

Decorah IA Eagle Cam Update
Live Video streaming by Ustream
Months have passed since the public started their vigil in wait for three little eaglets to hatch.
At my present viewing I hear the parents from a distance calling to their two fledglings perched on the tree limbs around the nest.
One has now taken flight to a different position out of camera view. Now,the second fledgling has left. How swiftly they grow from chicks to semi-independent individuals.
The camera area is now empty of raptors...but the sounds of morning are filling the air.
Here's wishing you all a pleasant summer day in July!

Decorah,IA Eagle Cam
We often get to see our wild friends up close in their own spaces...bear dens, river cams and trail cameras.
Today, I would like to share an Iowa based Eagle Cam. The Cam belongs to the Raptor Resource Project.
When I first started watching last week I could hear Canadian Geese flying around as I kept my vigil.
It is my understanding the Eagle family are expecting their offspring for the season.
Please enjoy...
